Clemencia Labin at the Diana Lowenstein Gallery

I was asked to be part (only as body) of a performance piece for Clemencia Labin. It was such an honor to be able to perform along side such an amazing and accomplished artists that I find it hard to even put it into words.

Labin’s performance piece was about how women who were considered white or higher class in Latin America covered their bodies so that they would not turn “black” she displays this by covering everyones body with excessive amounts of fabric. The main concept of the piece is myself and another artist were to be her ladies on concert, our dresses made noise which were in that time single them out so the peasants would move, we were made to walk ahead of her and almost thrust ourselves into the people in the gallery demanding passage. While she stayed about ten feet behind us, behind her another artist by the name of Luis Gonzales held an umbrella over her head to protect her from the sun. Finally at the end of the performance she bowed in front of the make shift virgin Mary and prayed.

I suggest that you look at her work she is very talented individual.
